Stafford Reversible Tansu Step Chest is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 167.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quapity piece! I ordered this piece for my entryway and I love it! My order arrived within about 4 days and I was very pleased with the quality of the product. It came in many pieces, but the instructions were pretty clear and easy to follow. Assembly took me a few hours, but I found it fairly easy. I am very happy with this tansu step chest. It is a great addition to my home....I would highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great piece the furniture came in two different boxes - complete and easy to put together. the only flaw are the brackets that hold the boxes together - very cheap and I had to go out and buy some at the store and then I added two for every one. So I wasn't thrilled about that otherwise the boxes pull away from each other oh one other thing the instructions tell you to put brackets on first in the back - the back boards go on first fyi -

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty but defective I ordered two of these. First one went together fine. Second one had a defective piece. I called Customer service, and called, and called. Long story short, it took hours on the phone and almost a month before they finally sent a replacement piece. Nice furniture, terrible customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality, easy assembky I bought this a month ago. When I opened the two boxes I was a little nervous about putting it together. However, it wasn't bad at all--about 3 hours and a Phillips head screwdriver and it was done. I'm a woman of "a certain age" so if I can do it, anyone can. It's not solid wood and probably wouldn't take hard use but it seems sturdy and looks great. I'd buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A small piece of Asia I fell in love be with step tonsu's when I was fortunate enough to live in Japan. Since coming home I've been looking for a decent quality piece that I could actually afford. This is it! It was tough to put together - I enlisted the help of 2 friends and we got it done. For all the momentary frustrations it was well worth it I would recommend this to anyone interested in a quality piece at an affordable price. It's great to have a small piece of quality Asian style at a price that I could afford

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just as it says but darker than pictured. I have been looking for a Tansu and this fit exactly what we were looking for. It was perfectly priced. Although, the finish is a lot darker than pictured we are satisfied with the two we bought. It is a quality and durable piece and we are extremely happy with our purchase. I wish the bottom shelf was higher (I am going to build a platform so it is not so low to the ground). We did measure before buying so we knew the measurements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely love it This chest is perfect for that otherwise useless space under the stairs or next to them. It provides lots of storage space, and looks like a much more expensive piece of furniture. Everyone who sees it wants to know where I got it. I had my handyman put it together for me and he said it wasn't difficult to do, and the directions were easy to follow.

I noticed that only the chestnut finish was available at this time, even though the catalog that I have from last spring indicates that rubbed walnut was an option. Will the walnut variety soon be back?

Asked by: Larry K
Thank you for your question. We apologize we do not have this item in the walnut finish any longer. Please take a look at our Mandarin Tansu Cabinet it may be in the color you are looking for.

Dog Steps?

I want to use this piece to make steps for my dog at the foot of the bed. My bed is 3' high. The Steps need to be longer for his stride & lower to be below the bed. Does anyone think this might be possible? I am surprised that no one has done this in real pet steps.
Asked by: Samille
I don't think this would work for dog steps. First, it is taller than 3' so it would be higher than your bed. If you used just the bottom two levels, that is about 29". Second, it is quite long and you would have to climb over it to get into bed, or put it at the end. Third, the "steps" are 9 inches, which would be difficult for a small dog. And last, unless your dog has been declawed, they would scratch up a lovely piece of furniture trying to get traction. Just buy dog steps.

Where are hinges on hinged piece?

Are hinges on top or bottom of hinged piece and can they be made to work either way? Also, does the hinged piece slide back into the unit or does it lock open? Can't tell in any of the pictures. Thank you.
Asked by: dbow
The hinges on the doors are on the side ( ex.: left, if you choose to have the highest part on the left, right if you choose to have the highest part on the right). You do have to choose left or right before you start assembly.
