8" Decorative Recessed Light Cover is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I finally like my recessed lighting. I have always disliked my recessed lighting. These covers changed everything! They look so classy. I only wish they came in white so that I could buy more for the ones in my kitchen! I purchased bulb socket extenders to make the bulb come right to the edge of the ring. The extenders want me only about $2.50 and made a world of a difference. I highly recommend these.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Recessed Light Cover These were a lot more complicated to install than the previous ones I had bought from Improvements several years ago...and they did not match at all (even though they looked like a match in the catalog picture), I had to do some creative changes in room placement. Very disappointed, however, I made them work out despite the differences. You must have changed suppliers...would not recommend because they were more difficult to install. Noticed they were made in China, the instructions were not in clear English.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Added elegant touch to kitchen These light covers add warmth and elegance to my kitchen and are "light" years ahead of the construction-grade can-lights they replaced, in terms of attractiveness. I did, however, have to pay a handyman to install them. The brightness emitted by the lights now has been reduced, due to their design, but that should have been obvious to me. Overall, they look great and I'm pleased with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the look It really is beautiful. The only thing I am not fond of is the light that comes through the top part on the ceiling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple Change/Nicer Look I'm very happy with the decorative recessed light covers. I was impressed with the rim and glass quality, and I was able to install them myself. One thing I didn't consider is that it softens the lighting quite a bit. It's not a problem unless you want to keep your current level of brightness. Also, I purchased nine of them, but I forgot that the two over the fireplace were adjustable ones. I decided not to install the decorative cover on those two and returned them. The returns process was very easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade at a great price! I'd had my eye on these for a while. Needing eight for my kitchen, not certain they would work with the canisters I have, I was hesitant to justify the expense. Tired of seeing the flat painted rims and starkness of the black interior of the cans, I went ahead and took the plunge and am so glad I did! The initial install was a bit tricky because they don't install like you might think reading the instructions but once we mastered the first one, we felt somewhat foolish because it really is easy to do. As with some other reviews they do give a more golden glow than the old can as the glass ring slightly conceals the bulb and reflects the gold metal interior of the can but that was what I wanted anyway. They probably would not work well with a textured ceiling as you do get a bit of light exposed from the ring not being perfectly flush in some more than others. That is likely a sheetrock issue more so than the product. Something some caulk could resolve if you found it annoying but I don't feel it worth the effort. I'm so satisfied with the kitchen, I plan to replace to replace eight more in my master bedroom and bath!

Are gaskets available for this product to prevent light bleeding through the circumferance?

I purchased three of these decorative light covers as a test to determine whether we wanted them throughout the house (a total of 25 canned lights). I had them professionally installed because my light cans did not have the slots (indicated in the directions) in which to insert the wires which hold the covers taught against the celiling. Although the covers are firmly rested against the ceiling, light bleeds out around the circumference of the cover, making it appear as if it is not properly installed. The electrician indicated that most decorative light covers come with gaskets, black circular discs which are placed around the cover between it and the ceiling which prevents such light bleeding through. Ours did not come with any such gasket. I would purchase more if there is a way to prevent the light from bleeding through the sides.

I could not find gaskets for these fixtures. I saw that the bleeding around the circumference by putting bulb extenders on the bulbs. $2.50 each and now I do not notice the light around the circumference.

Will these work on older recessed light fixtures?

I have an older can fixture (1996) and having difficulty figuring out if the prongs work on my fixture. My fixture has more of a spring piece that snaps & holds unit up in the ceiling. I don't understand how to make the prongs work.
Asked by: donnaeb
My fixtures were installed in 1987! We couldn't visualize it either but as indicated in the instructions, there is a baffle inside the canister, once removed you should see the slots where the prongs slide in, push up and it pulls flush to the ceiling.
