Automatic Plant Watering System with Coil Basket is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best on the market- but fails often, have backups I have tried 3 of the better rated indoor plant automatic watering systems... of the 3 this is clearly superior. It does the job quite well- relatively easy to program. The only downside is the longevity. In 3 years I'm on my 7th or 8th unit... I find each lasts a few months at most before failing. Of course, this is just an estimate. The one I use now has gone well for over a year. The 3 before lasted weeks only. Most commonly the electronics seem to just fail and no matter what batteries you put in they won't water or turn on... 2 of them apparently somehow leaked and water filled the containers. (You can see from the picture the electronics are completely free from the suction and output tubes, I have no idea how this happened indoors in units still attached to the sides of the tubs... but the batteries were also fried in those 2, water in the battery compartment.). I've yet to find a better or more reliable unit sadly though I keep trying- but if you get one of these I'd highly recommend setting up 2 at once each pulling 1/2 the water you want for redundancy so you don't come back from vacation to find your plants had no water at all. I personally leave for 2 weeks of every month and rely on these alone to do the watering... so your experience may be different if you only use them 1 week a year. Also, the tub is great for several small houseplants. If you actually use all the outputs to water 8 plants or so with any reasonable size, you'll drain the tub fast- but this can be hooked onto a larger water tub with a narrow rim instead of the collapsable green tube that comes with it. In sum, I've spent a few years researching and trying these automatic indoor plant watering systems. At this time, 2018, I think this is clearly the best but has great room for improvement.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Watering system System worked as advertised - very easy to set up - watered 10 plants during a 10 day absence. Used a three day cycle with 60 second watering time and there was plenty of water.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for short vacations. I bought this system to help in watering my beloved strawberries and basil while I was out of town. I used 7 of the 10 tubes. Worked pretty good. Lasted 4 days without my friends topping off. I'll probably buy another one next season. Assembly was okay. The cover over batteries didn't fit correctly due to screws not fitting properly but it works. The tubing can be a little tricky at times (they can come off if bumped). Not that big of a deal but consumer should know.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, could be better This product provided a solution to a common problem, how to keep potted plants watered while you take a vacation. It worked! Bu With a few changes, it would have worked better. One prior user said that the water was limited to only one place and didn't spread well. Solution: put two emitters in the pot. The bucket did not necessarily hold enough water for the length of time needed. Solution: get a water reservoir that is wider. Like other users, instead of the bucket provided, we substituted a five gallon bucket from the hardware store, cutting off part of the rim to accommodate the hooks for the timer mechanism platform. We used two emitters pernpot, set for 90 seconds every other day. The device solved our problem, and our plants lived through a heat spell.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great concept but not sufficient enough for my needs It's summer time and I was leaving on a two week vacation. I have quite a few garden pots I needed to keep watered and thought this was the perfect method for doing so. The basket and pump were so small that there was no way it would be sufficient for my needs. I would still need someone to stop by and fill the basket every couple days. I could easily use a larger basket, except that the size of the cord for the pump would not allow this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No worries plant tender This system gives me the peace of mind that my plants will be well cared for when we travel. The set up directions are clear, the system works well and I couldn't be happier. If I didn't like my plants scattered through out the house I'd use it all the time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems good so far Just set it up today with some help. One bracket broke that holds it own the water bucket but it still stays up. Hopefully now it will water while we are away. I am testing it before we leave just to test it early. The great thing about it is it will pack up small when not in use and they gave us plenty of tubing and brackets to hold them in the pots!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Automatic Plant Watering System with Coil Basket Based on the online search for automatic plant watering systems, I chose this one because it looked like it offered the best solution for my needs. It provided water for up to 10 different plants and was fairly easy to set up. It would be much easier for the customer if the programming instructions were broken down into watering times that were in whole numbers such as "2 times a day" instead of ".5 times a day". As for the amount of water that comes out each time and setting the length of time for each watering, that takes some trial and error. Overall, setting it up didn't take too long and testing it was fairly easy. One feature that could use improving is how the water comes out at the end of each tube. It doesn't shoot too far out from the opening and it doesn't spread out at all. It just comes out in a small stream, in the same exact place, every single time it waters. For larger plants it doesn't reach out over the entire surface area of the soil or roots. Some sort of stream widening device at the end of each tube would make this a much more adaptable system for larger plants. What is nice is that the timer can be placed on larger buckets other than the one that is included in the kit. I used a 5 gallon bucket and it worked well. In the end, it's not a bad system, and definitely performed the way it was described.

How much water does the container hold? Can a bigger container be used?

Asked by: Babs154
Maybe 2 gallons. You would have to completely replace the hose connected to the pump so that the pump sits at the bottom of your alternate container.

How long will the batteries last ? Will they last one month ?

Asked by: hwm99
Thank you for your question. The lifespan of the battery depends on type of battery you are using and the frequency and duration of the time in which you are watering.

Use of the Automatic Plant Watering System

Can this unit be used with the water reservoir on the floor and the plants on a 3 foot high table. What I am asking is if the pump has the strength to pump (uphill) 3 feet to 10 plants. Thank you.
