DIY Candle Centerpiece for Your Beach-Theme Party

" "

The ideal outdoor summer party is as casual and laid-back as summer itself. Here’s a DIY centerpiece idea that’s simple, elegant, and fuss-free. The sand makes this centerpiece perfect for a beach-themed party, and the candles mean you can celebrate long after the sun sets.

What you’ll need for your beach theme candle centerpiece:

  1. Empty, clean glass jars (We used various sizes and assorted colors for extra visual interest.)
  2. White sand (You can buy play sand at hardware stores or decorative white sand at craft stores. Sand from the beach will work, too.)
  3. Votive candles; 1 for each jar
  4. Decorative tray (optional)
  5. Wand lighter

Step 1: Add Sand to Glass Jars

" "Make sure your jars are clean and dry. Add an equal amount of sand into each jar. We filled ours a little over 1/3 full – you’ll want to make sure you leave enough room for a few inches of glass above the top of the candle to protect the flame from wind.

Step 2: Level the Sand

" "Level the top of the sand by gently shaking or swirling the jar horizontally.

Step 3: Add a Candle

" "Firmly place each candle into a jar. Be sure to wiggle the candle base securely into the sand so it won’t tip over.

Step 4: Arrange the Jars onto a Tray

" "Arrange candle-filled jars on a tray or tabletop. Make sure to do this before you light them—it’s safer and a lot simpler than moving them after they’re lit. Adjust the candle jars on the centerpiece tray until you get the look you want.

Step 5: Light the Candles

" "Light the candles. Note: You can also use flameless candles if you prefer, but if you do, don’t forget to check the batteries!
