This works GREAT! I've had this outside for a week and have heard three barks, maybe 4. My Westie (who's nature it is to bark to get other dogs under control) barked once when I first put it out - set on 2 -and didn't bark again for 3 days. We live in Arizona so in the spring, we have a lot of dogs walking by our patio. Normally she barks at all of them. Very annoying...not so much anymore! I highly recommend this as a solution for a dog that barks - the louder the better! I've spent lots of money on bark collars + batteries for bark collars - none of them worked as well as this $12 investment (Unit + 1/2 the battery cost.) Well done Improvements Catalog!! DON'T BOTHER I never even got a chance to see if this would keep my dog from barking. I inserted a brand new battery, the red light came on, and then went off within 10 seconds. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get the red light to stay on. There was obviously a short inside the item. So I packed it right back into the box and returned it. I should've known better, based on the other reviews. March 28, 2013

Good looking product that did not work I read the reviews on this item before purchase, and they seemed to be about 50/50, so I decided to give it a try. The first one received had what appeared to be an electrical short in the circuitry, so I returned it for exchange. The replacement was even worst; i.e., it did not work AT ALL. I even asked that it be thoroughly tested before leaving the warehouse, but that obviously never happened. March 25, 2013

DOGS STILL BARK! i BOUGHT THIS TO USE IN MY YARD TO HELP WITH THE BARKING...DOGS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD. I bought "new" batteries and even lowered the birdhouse and pointed in the direction that was recommended. IT DOES NOT WORK! I am returning it for a full refund ...I was really hoping... Good value - at the sale price I received the birdhouse a couple of weeks ago and have noticed a dramatic decrease in our dog's barking, so it appears to be working, at least so far. I got this product on sale but would have been disappointed in the quality had I paid full price, especially with the connection for the 9v battery. The wires to the battery are attached to the connections with a piece of plastic that feels like it will easily tear when replacing the battery. The unit is an attractive way to deter the dog's barking, however, and seems to be doing the job. February 14, 2013

I'll never know if it works! The tiny screw needed to open the battery compartment, was striped so I don't know if it works or not. I would have to break it then tape after I put the battery in place. Not a happy camper. January 24, 2013

Cream of the Junk I tried the Bark control birdhouse on my outdoor fence, it had zero effect on my neighbor's dog which barks at all times of the day and night. A complete waste of time and money. Good appearance, lousy workmanship. January 9, 2013

Sorry, but it has not helped. I am sad to report that this cute birdhouse has had no impact whatsoever on my very, very loud little beagle howling at the neighbors when they are out in their yard. He is very close to where I have it hanging on the fence but does not seem to experience anything unusual and thus, he goes on howling. I had been so hopeful. January 5, 2013

Don't waste your time. Dog next door barks constantly. Tried this product hoping for success. It didn't work. The range was too far. Maybe if it was closer, it would have worked. Don't know. Sent it back. January 2, 2013

Birdhouse bark deterrent This really works! Neighbor's dog has been driving us crazy, put this in corner of our patio on the medium setting (up to 30 ft.) and if he starts barking close to our house, he just grunts then quits. It is nice that it's non-harmful to dogs and only activates if they bark close to it. Very attractive appearance, like a real old-fashioned birdhouse. January 2, 2013

Great expectations We had been looking for something to help with bark control for our two young dogs. This is a pretty birdhouse and looks nice in the backyard. The directions were easy to understand and explained how to use the product. We hung it on the privacy fence near all the bedrooms. In the beginning it worked great, the dogs didn't bark on the side of the house where the birdhouse was hung. This was great because my bedroom window is next to the fence. Sadly it stopped working after a week. I tried replacing the batteries, but it didn't help. There was no obvious damage done to the birdhouse so we chalked it up to poor quality. December 4, 2012

Finally, not awakened by dogs barking! I use to be awakened about 4:30 or 5:00 am by next door dogs barking. Not now since I got the Bark Buster. It took a couple of days but now the dogs are quiet, most of the time. If they do bark, it is a short quick bark and then they hush. Thanks for your good product! November 17, 2012

Success at Last! I can finally let my dogs out and not worry about them disturbing the neighbors!! This little birdhouse is doing the job and the dogs only bark once or not at all! I am so relieved and to think it's all possible because of this clever little house. In fact I don't hear the dog living behind us either as we have the birdhouse hanging in the tree that is in the corner of the yard. This product is a life saver and I am so glad I found it in one of the many catalogs I receive. A huge thank you to the inventor of this product. September 14, 2012

Didn't work for us I have two dogs that bark throughout the day over any little noise outside. I bought this thinking it would keep that from happening but it didn't help at all and in fact, it really stressed my dogs out. Maybe mine was defective, but it would go off randomly, like if I dropped something nearby or if my 4 year old was talking too loudly near it. Every time it went off, my dogs would cower and one of them got so upset that he was shaking and hiding between my legs all afternoon. It definitely wasn't teaching them not to bark, they were perfectly quiet when it was going off. Improvements was wonderful though, I can't speak highly enough about their customer service! OMG even at half off what a sham I had been considering this product for months, when I saw it was half off I thought, lets try it. It is a flimsy plastic piece of garbage that did not work at all, tried it outside, inside, nothing worked for either my very small dog or my big dog. Very dissapointed September 7, 2012

Works Great! I bought this because my neighbors dogs constantly bark when me or my dogs are outside. I turned it on and my dogs ran for cover to get away from the sound that only dogs could hear. Unfortunately, my neighbors dogs just kept on barking. September 4, 2012

5 Barking Dogs I have hung this out by my front fence where my dogs all run and bark and so haven't noticed any difference in their bark patterns yet. At first I think they noticed it but I was out by it this morning and they were just barking like crazy. I do believe it will work for fewer dogs as I do notice that when only one or two are out there they don't bark as much. August 7, 2012
