What you need
- White poster board
- Glow-in-the-dark paint
- Black acrylic paint
- Fishing wire
Keep an eye out on your neighbors with some glowing eyes Halloween tree decorations that are easy to make and fun to hang up. Begin by cutting large eyeball shapes out of white poster board. These shapes can be ovals, almonds or circles. Make the average size about 1′ and add a few larger and a few smaller sizes from there. Paint both sides of the cut-outs with glow-in-the-dark paint (found at most craft stores). Add a pupil to each side of the eyeballs with black acrylic paint. Hang the eyeballs in the trees by punching a hole in the top of each eyeball and looping fishing wire through each hole. Tie it off and have someone climb up the tree to strategically hang them on the branches.
What you need
- 10 Pumpkins (various sizes)
- Acrylic paint (if you choose to paint a pumpkin face)
- Pumpkin carving tools (if you choose to carve a face into your pumpkin
To create pumpkin trees, you’ll need to find a tree that has a lot of branches on it. Purchase about 10 pumpkins of various sizes. If you want a spooky tree, paint or carve scary faces onto the pumpkins. If you are just going for a cute Halloween tree decoration, leave them plain or paint clown faces on them with acrylic paint. If you carve faces into your pumpkins, sit an LED flicker tea light candle into each pumpkin to light up their faces at night. Find nooks in the tree where you can easily nestle the pumpkins (such as where the branches meet the tree) so that they will be stable enough to withstand some windy nights.
What you need
- 2-3 bags of artificial spider webs
- Black balloons
- Large googly eyes
- Black pipe cleaners
Using a ladder, climb up and drape the artificial spider webs around the exterior of your tree. It will stick to the branches. To create some eerie spiders:
- Blow up the black balloons to your desired spider size and tie them off.
- Wrap the tip of 8 pipe cleaners around the knot of the balloon, bending them so that they are spaced evenly around the balloon.
- Bend and twist the pipe cleaners so that they are arranged to look like 8 spider legs.
- Glue 2 googly eyes onto the front of each balloon.
The spiders should stick to the spider web just fine, but if you have a hard time getting them to stay, go ahead and use a small piece of double-sided tape or glue dots to stick the knot of the balloon to the web.
